Tiffany Bohrer, a.k.a. the Tipsy Artist and Othello’s of Norman are partnering together to host a very special event “Tipsy For a Cause” Silent Auction in Honor of Barry Switzer.

BARRY SWITZER

Barry Switzer is a former football coach, active in the college and professional ranks between 1962 and 1997. He has one of the highest winning percentages of any college football coach in history, and is one of only two head coaches to win both a college football national championship and a Super Bowl.  His college coaching career placed him in the College Football Hall of Fame. During his 16 years as head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners, he compiled a 157-29-4 record and won 12 Big Eight Championships and three National Championships. In 1994, Switzer was named head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, winning Super Bowl XXX in 1996. Switzer was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002.   In 2004, he received the Jim Thorpe Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tiffany Bohrer asked Barry Switzer to paint with her on August 27, 2012.  He agreed and painted his very first painting called “Touch Down”   Switzer painted with a classic patriotic color scheme of red, white and blue and his 16x20 canvas shows one of his famous triple option plays with his winning record and his signature.  The night of painting was documented with photographs of Barry painting step by step.

The original Barry Switzer 16x20 painting titled “Touch Down” will be sold in a silent auction on October 29, 2012 at Othello’s of Norman.  There is already one starting bid of $1000.  100% of the proceeds from silent auction sale of painting will go to The James Ray Family.

“I challenged Barry Switzer to come paint with me on a KSBI interview before my upcoming paint party and then sent him a message through Twitter with an interview link and my request to help me raise funds for the James Ray family.  I was going after the best to help me win funds for this cause.  Barry was my #1 choice.  He showed up and painted a masterpiece that I believe will help us win back a home and restoration for this family,” said Tiffany Bohrer, the Tipsy Artist.

“It is no accident that I was contacted by Tonya Potts to help this family.  The fact that James Ray became a paraplegic on the one year anniversary just before losing his home touched my heart in a very special way. My Step-Dad Chuck, an OU alumnus and huge Barry Switzer fan is a quadriplegic.  My Mom is a nurse with a heart of gold.  I have watched them go through many trials in life with a home and resources.  That was hard enough.  I can’t imagine how difficult their life would be if they had no home.  And yet that is what the James Ray family is facing right now,” said Tiffany Bohrer, the Tipsy Artist.

Jennifer Weiss, owner of Othello’s added “We really like to do good things for the community because that is what is important,”

“Indescribable. Thinking of little things that are gone,” Ray said.

Ray and his fiancée, Dottie, were evacuated before flames overtook their home.
Since then, they had been living in a hotel until Ray was put back in the hospital.

The cramped hotel room was not fit for someone with needs like Ray’s.
A motorcycle accident left him paralyzed from the chest down last year.
The family lost almost everything they owned in the fire,
including all of Ray’s medical equipment.
But worse than his home and belongings, he lost memories.
He helped build the home for his mother who passed away several years ago.
“Just trying to go on. That’s all you can do,” he said.
“It just keeps piling on one right after another.” – James Ray

Now, the family is looking for a place that is handicapped accessible after
doctors release Ray from the hospital in about six weeks.

“I have to have a house in place and ready for him to come home to
or he’s got nowhere to go,” his fiancée Dottie McLeroy said.

The couple’s animals including horse, dogs and cats
were taken in all over the state.

All but one, their cat Spike, escaped the fire; nobody could catch him.
“We didn’t get anything out but us and the animals,” Ray said.
